The current pandemic outbreak as not to dissimilar to a weed like wild radish.

If the place down the road gets a wild radish infestation, what do we do?

Generally, we would take simple measures to stop the spread. We would make sure contractors are bringing in clean equipment, ensure fewer un-necessary vehicles coming onto the farm, purchase hay and grain from ‘safe’ properties, or even stop bringing it in at all.

How does that relate to COVID-19?

Just like a wild radish infestation, the Coronavirus spreads through contact with people and their equipment. Such as:

  • Agronomists
  • Contractors
  • Harvesting teams driving from farm to farm
  • Grain depots.

All of these essential touch points mean an increased risk to COVID-19 exposure.

The show must go on!

As we know, our operations can’t stop. So here are a few things we can do to minimise the risk:

  • Maintain a social distance!
  • Keep sanitiser/germ wipes in all vehicles, including contractors
  • If moving a contractors vehicles, wipe down high-risk surfaces (door handle, gear stick, steering wheel, etc.)
  • Use a farm management app such as Mobble to connect with staff, whilst remaining apart

Everyone is doing an amazing job adapting to the ever-changing situation, let’s all continue to keep ourselves, our families and our farms safe. With a good season predicted by the BOM just last week, there is a lot to look forward to!
